HQ4Baseball & Softball Summer Camps
Our Camp Director is Hal Bagwell. Coach Bagwell has years of experience working and running summer camps. He has been our Camp Director since 2005. Coach Bagwell is both a student and great teacher of the game. As Head Baseball Coach at Ardrey Kell High School, Coach Bagwell won the North Carolina 4A High School State Championship in 2009, and was Runner Up in 2008. Coach Bagwell is one of the coaches for USA Baseball, helping train and select players for the USA National teams.
Coach Bagwell puts together an outstanding program designed to teach young players the fundamentals of baseball and softball. Players learn the proper techniques for throwing, fielding, and hitting, as well as position specific techniques for pitcher, catcher, infield, and outfield. Players also learn base running and defensive situations, and are taught the proper mental approach that is key to being a successful player. For an outline of the program, see our Program Outline page.
Coach Bagwell also puts together the absolute best coaching staff available! The head coaches from some of the best high school programs in the area, like Providence High School, Hopewell High School, South Meck High School, Weddington High School, Parkwood High School, as well as key assistants, teach players at our camps. Additional coaches include former college and professional players. The key is that all of our coaches know the game, and know how to teach! For more on our coaching staff, see our Coaching Staff page.
Our outdoor camps are designed for players ages 7 to 15. Parents can call to discuss if their player is old enough to attend our outdoor camp. Each camp lasts for five days, Monday through Friday. The hours are 8 am to 1 pm each day. This is designed to avoid the worst heat of the day. Players are provided water at breaks scheduled throughout the day. Of course, most players bring their own water bottles or Gator Aide. We take a 30 minute lunch break each day at 10:55 am. Players should bring a non-perishable lunch or snack. Players are expected to be seated on the designated bleachers for roll call at 8:00 am each morning. Coach Bagwell brings the players back together on the bleachers each day a little before 1:00 pm to summarize the day, and dismisses the players at 1:00 pm. Parents are expected to have made arrangements to pick up their players at that time.
Players should bring their own equipment, including their glove and bat. They should be dressed to play baseball or softball, with appropriate pants and shirts. Hats are recommended. Players may wear their playing cleats or regular athletic shoes.
Our Summer Camps are held at various outdoor locations around the Charlotte area. These locations all have multiple fields, so that we can break the players down into softball and baseball groups by age and skill level. Each group goes to their own field. For the list of dates and locations for 2010, see our 2010 Summer Schedule page.
The fee is $185 per player for a five day summer camp. In addition to the best training available, players receive:
- Camp T-shirt
- Camp Insurance (this is secondary insurance, designed to cover any expenses not covered by primary insurance)
For younger players, not quite ready for a full, outdoor camp, HQ4Baseball & Softball offers our popular Little Sluggers Indoor Camps. These are designed for players ages 4 to 7 who have not played a lot of ball. We teach the fundamentals in a safe, friendly environment. They are held indoors at the HQ4Baseball & Softball training facility. The fee is $125 per player for a five day camp. For more information see our Little Sluggers Indoor Summer Camps page.
